GOSH- Holographic..

My my my... I have been lusting after this nail polish since the summer or even before, but just couldn't justify spending a fiver on it knowing that it's fairly gimmicky..

HOWEVER,

I was up town with Connor last week and I went into Superdrug to get a drink, however I also looked at the make up (dur). I noticed that GOSH had a small stand up with items which had 50% taken off the RRP. I didn't really think they would reduce this polish as it's really quite popular and I know it's been sold out in quite a few places. However, as I approached the stand and looked at the top of the polishes for the name, what did it say? "549 Holographic".

I am on a bit of a spending ban as I have a holiday to pay for in March, but I would have got this one day any ways so I suppose I have saved a bit of money. I remember seeing this months and months ago on a blog (I really can't remember whose it was now) and I was just mesmerised by the beautiful colours.

As I had read up on this polish quite a lot before buying it, I knew the application would be tricky, so I applied a white polish on top of my base coat so it wouldn't look as streaky. To be honest, I think this really helped so I would advise using a white/grey/silver before you applied the polish itself. I can't even tell you how impatient I was when I was waiting for the base coat and white coat to dry. That's quite sad, I know.. but I don't really care, I mean just look at it.

Now for some pictures... see how it looks quite plain when it is in normal light?

As I applied the white coat first, I think this stopped it going really streaky so I was really pleased, but the main problem was that it was just so lumpy! Obviously you are only meant to do 3 brush strokes on the nail, but then if there are lines you need to run your brush over them again so it looks more even, but with this polish it's so hard to do that. The polish is really thick for a start off and the brush really isn't great and it leaves lumps of polish on the nail. But after the first coat the application got a bit easier.

Drying time was surprising actually as it was really quite thick. I think I waited about 6 minutes inbetween applying different coats, which isn't too bad! I think I applied 3 or 4 coats and added a little bit of Seche Vite to the tips (I heard applying a top coat to it dulls down the holographic effect)

So here it is in all it's glory:

Isn't it beautiful? In certain lights it's plain silver, in some it looks almost pale blue and when it's in a certain light the surface is green, copper and blue. I thought it would be quite hard to wear, but in all honestly, it actually isn't.

The bottle is GORGEOUS. I actually love it (even though the polish doesn't look holographic in it!). It's so sleek and professional looking. However, Superdrug tends to put big thick labels on them which leave glue marks on it after you have pulled it off. Looks like I will be getting the nail polish remover at it :(

Has anyone else braved this statement polish?

I bought it at Superdrug for £2.49 (not including 10% student discount)

Lots of love
